What a collection of comings and goings

I still had a couple of Wizard of Oz photos that I had not posted.  We have a pretty poppy and a magnificent monkey.

I am so happy that Marina has learned my love of organizing.  But, this is a project I am not sure I would have tackled.  She emptied all the bookcases in her room to sort the books by type.  There were books about animals, princess books, funny books, and as many categories as you see on the floor here.  It took several hours, but in the end, she had the most organized books in the house!

Lincoln and Marina had a piano recital, and they both did great!

When the Pauls and Halvorsens visited, we celebrated Easter again with an easter egg hunt organized by Kara.

Right after Wizard of Oz, Marina and I had a girls trip to Las Vegas.  We went to see the touring production of Beauty and the Beast, and had some other fun while we were there.

Strawberry Cupcake - thumbs up!

Lincoln got 5 activity pins at scouts - he has been very busy!

One of Marina's class field trips was to the Shakespeare Festival to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with Queen Elizabeth.

We headed to Ogden at the end of April for my sister Karlene's college graduation from Weber State University.  Karlene was the outstanding graduate for the military sciences program, and her degree was in criminal justice.  Karlene was nice enough to have knee surgery right before graduation so we could easily pick her out of the crowd.  She is the one on crutches.  Our cousin Emily Teeples also graduated at the same time, so the ceremony was a two-fer!

Congrats Grad!
Sorry the cake is upside down, but half of it is Weber State colors and half is army colors because Karlene got her officer's commission in the army (as a second lieutenant) the same day.

In between the graduation and the commission ceremonies, we had lunch and play time at the Paul's.  Of course it was silly of me to think that Marina (and her cousin Alice) could not get in the pond.  Needless to say, Marina had to wear different clothes to the commissioning ceremony.  They had fun though!

The commissioning ceremony was for 15 officers, so the crutches were not necessary to pick Karlene out.  There were a lot of formal parts of the occasion.  First, two family members pin the officers bars on the uniform.
Jesse, Karlene, and my mom at the pinning ceremony.

Then, the women who support the officers are presented with flowers.
Then, an officer of their choice administers the oath of service for each of the new officers.  Once they are new officers, they have a non-commissioned officer of their choice give them their first salute.  My dad, in his Navy uniform, gave Karlene her first salute as an officer.  My dad said, "Lead the way, Ma'am." Then Karlene responded with, "Follow me."  It was really neat to see all the ceremony and the ways that the occasion is marked.  I am so happy we could all be there.

All the new officers.  If the crutches weren't enough to find Karlene, she is the only female of the group.

We got to spend the rest of the weekend with the Pauls, and Marina had another chance to play in the pond.  This time not wearing dressy clothes.

Archeology Day at the museum.  Those are native American duck decoys.

At field day, Lincoln got first place in some events (long jump), but his dancing was perhaps the most memorable.  This is, I believe the Macarena.

Marina's cute new haircut

After our haircuts, we had a ladies lunch at the bowling alley (her choice)
Marina had her second grade program in May, called BUGZ.

What cute kids

Marina got me a wonder woman shirt for mother's day to match her shirt
Then, Lincoln and Marina performed a Mother's Day Circus.  In the garage.  It was awesome.

Kara came to visit for Memorial Day weekend, so we had some adventures at home.  This is the new park in Cedar City.  That is Marina at the top!

Then, we walked/biked up to the waterfall in Cedar Canyon.

Marina would not go near the water, but she did a little climbing.

Nothing like the creek to cool off!
