A couple of weeks ago, I made an exciting discovery at Costco - this beautiful dress for Marina. Some of you may recognize it as the same dress Marina wore to my wedding. She was so cute, and I was very sad when that dress did not fit her anymore. So, I was thrilled to find the same dress in a size six for her. Now she can wear the dress that warms my heart for another few years! Hooray!
Lincoln got some big news at his last visit to the dentist - his grown up teeth don't have any room to grow into his mouth. Look at the X-ray to see:
So, Lincoln is going to get spacers to move his teeth apart to make room for all the teeth that are stuck underneath with no where to go. Lincoln was very brave for his x-rays and for all the molds that he had to have made. He should get his spacers the first part of December - Merry Christmas!
The new favorite pastime at our house has been an iPod game called Plants vs. Zombies. Lincoln, Marina, and I all love this game. Marina's favorite zombie-battling plant is the jalapeno pepper. Marina has her own name for them though.

We have been making some fun preparations for Halloween. We painted mini pumpkins. Carving pumpkins only lasted through scraping out one pumpkin, so we drew faces on big pumpkins. We also made and decorated Halloween cookies. I was trying to keep the kids from eating too much candy (we had just been to the dentist this month), so after a few pieces, I told the kids they could only eat the candy on one of their decorated cookies once we were done with them. Marina, being extremely resourceful, came up with the following decorated cookie:

Finally trick or treat day arrived! I have to say that I am glad we trick or treated on Saturday, because I don't think I could have handled another full day of being asked how long until they could put their costumes on. Marina decided at the last minute that she did not want to be Belle, but wanted to wear her new red dress and be the Queen of Hearts. Well, with a little pinch hitting, we turned in a great Queen of hearts costume and she really got into her role.

Lincoln was a ninja assassin. He certainly knew the stealth moves!

Happy Halloween from the Pauls!

September 2010

Ryan agreed to be a judge for the Iron County Fair parade, and I thought it would be fun to all to to the parade. I was fun for the first hour. After that, the kids (and the adults) were having a little less fun.
After two hours of parade (!), we went over to the fair and rode some rides.

Marina's favorite ride was the swings. Lincoln's favorite ride was nothing after he rode the Starship Trooper and felt a little green.

Marina and Lincoln have both been doing well in school. They are supposed to keep track of the minutes they read each month. In September Marina read (or was read to) for 240 minutes. Lincoln read 720 minutes! Here is Marina showing off her reading skills. :-)

Marina had a bad ear infection, and Lincoln has a loose tooth, but we all have been pretty healthy. Lincoln has started cub scouts and has already earned his bobcat award.
Lincoln received his award at his first pack meeting, which was also a bottle rocket derby.

Needless to say, Lincoln is loving scouts. Marina really liked pack meeting too, especially the food.

Marina loves the Fancy Nancy books that her aunt Kara got for her.

Ryan turned 40 last week! He had to work on his birthday, so we had a dinner for him with some friends the next day. The kids wanted to make giant birthday cards for their dad, so we got out all the art supplies, and they went at it.
Marina also helped me make a cake for Ryan - German chocolate. If you look close, you can see the chocolate all over her face and guess what she did to help. Lincoln asked one night if he could make up a dessert for himself. He asked for hamburger buns, peanut butter, and fruit snacks. He made a peanut butter-fruit snack sandwich. Food Network here we come!
Marina really enjoyed eating the leftover shrimp from Lincoln's baptism party. We had a little more left over than she could eat, and was a little upset when I threw them out after a couple of days. She loves her shrimp!
Marina also has a new princess dress to show off. However, she has decided to be Belle (from Beauty and the Beast) for Halloween. That has been pretty constant, so I think we have a costume for her. Lincoln was saying he wanted to be a murderer for Halloween, and Ryan and I didn't really like that. We talked him into another costume - a Ninja. He was so excited when he tried it on. He announced that he was a ninja assassin. Sure glad we dodged that murderer costume!

We spent this last weekend in Salt Lake with my family. We checked out the Halloween decorations at Gardner Historic Village over the weekend, and here is Lincoln with his favorite. Actually, he took some convincing before he would sit next to her. He would only consider it if his dad sat with him.
Lincoln also worked on one of his scout requirements with Grandpa Bob. Lincoln learned the names of a bunch of tools, hammered a nail, removed the nail, and built something out of wood. Here is Lincoln's project that he made with grandpa.
For another scout requirement, Lincoln was supposed to tour a fire station. Knowing how much his cousins Carter and Kyle love big trucks, we invited them to go on a tour with us. We saw where the firefighters eat and sleep when they are on duty. We saw where they keep all their gear and where they store the trucks. We also got to see them put on all their gear. They wanted the kids to see a fireman in all his gear so that if they ever were in a situation where a firefighter was there to help them, they would hopefully not run and hide. Here are all the kids on the fire truck.

They also let all the kids get up behind the wheel of the fire truck.

That's right. All the kids.
The kids also got to check out the ambulance. Sitting and lying down. Hopefully this is as close as they'll ever need to get to an ambulance!
